“I haven’t regretted my decision for a second”: Interview with Tamara Meggenrieder, industrial clerk at B+B

Tamara Meggenrieder is 20 years old – and recently qualified as an industrial clerk. After three exciting years of training, she decided to stay with the Batz + Burgel team. She told us why she applied back then, what made the apprenticeship special for her – and what she loves about her job today.

Tamara, you’ve been part of Batz + Burgel for almost three years. How did it all start?
I discovered the training position for industrial clerk on a platform at the time and simply called spontaneously. I already had a good feeling during the first phone call with Mr. Batz. Then I was allowed to come to the interview – including a tour of the company. After that, it was immediately clear to me: I want to work here!

And what was your training period like?
Really good. I was taken seriously from day one, was given responsibility and got to know many areas: purchasing, sales, accounting, production. A factory tour and materials training in Hamburg was particularly cool – I was allowed to go with our authorized signatory in the first year of my apprenticeship. Overall, the atmosphere was always great: collegial, respectful, relaxed. And we also had fun outside of work – for example at our team event at Alpsee with a summer toboggan run.

What was the biggest challenge for you during your training?
Definitely the responsibility that you get pretty quickly. I had my own customers and had to deal with their requests myself – that was really challenging at the beginning because the metal industry is quite complex. But I could always count on my team and learned to have confidence in myself.

So you were well supported?
Totally. I never had the feeling that I was on my own with questions. Even if you don’t understand something straight away, everyone is helpful and patient. That makes a huge difference.

You could have left after your apprenticeship. Why did you stay?
That wasn’t really a question for me. I’ve grown into it here, the team has really grown on me and I enjoy the work. I still want to learn a lot – and I can do that here.

What does your working day look like today?
I start at ten to eight in the morning with a coffee and a quick chat with my colleagues. Then it’s off to work with emails, post and phone calls, with the occasional trip to production. Something different happens every day – I love that. Lunch break is at twelve, often together in the meeting room. And I finish work at five – unless a meeting lasts longer.

What do you find particularly exciting about your job?
The variety. No two days are the same, I deal with lots of different customers, can contribute my own ideas and am taken seriously. And of course my team – we simply have a great working relationship.

What would you say to someone who is considering applying to Batz + Burgel?
Go for it! If you are interested in the industry, you will experience an exciting and instructive apprenticeship here – with a really good team and a family environment. I haven’t regretted my decision for a second.
